Almost everyone in the produce sector is familiar with the Mike’s Melons brand. This label is carried by Montelibano, one of the largest melon growers in Honduras. But who exactly is Mike?
Montelibano was established in 1979 by Miguel Molina and the melons were marketed under his name. This became Mike’s Melons in English. Miguel has had a passion for agriculture from early childhood. He began his career when the cotton industry started booming. He later switched to the production of melons. The rest of the family is also engaged in the family business. All of Miguel’s sons and daughters work in different company departments and Mrs Molina always accompanies her spouse on business trips.
The Agrolibano Group, under which Montelibano falls, also exports ornamental plants and shrimps. In addition, the Agrolibano Foundation carries out a wide range of non-profit activities for the local community. Mike’s Melons are available at Total Produce through May.
