Established in 1979, Agropecuaria Montelíbano is a traditional family-run business located in southern Honduras. The company is part of the Grúpo Agrolíbano and specialises in sustainable melon production. Every year, they export around 4,000 containers of melons under the Mike’s Melons label. The total production area covers more than 2,600 hectares. Agropecuaria Montelíbano primarily produces the cantaloupe and galia varieties for export to Europe, the Middle East, the Far East and North America.
The company feels very strongly about reliable and sustainable production. Five percent of profits are channelled into their own foundation called Fundación Agrolíbano.
This foundation is devoted to helping the impoverished local population by building hospitals, homes, schools and other facilities. Montelíbano makes an important contribution to health care and the development of the local community as a result.
